Katie Henry is a force of nature in the blues-rock world—a multi-instrumentalist whose soulful

vocals and sharp songwriting feel both timeless and refreshingly modern. While her rise on the international stage seems like a whirlwind, her journey is rooted in a refusal to stand still—defined by a constant, intentional push toward the next creative horizon.

A proud artist on the prestigious Ruf Records roster, Katie has quickly built a formidable discography. Songbirds - PA's Finest Songwriters

Thursday, June 25, 2026 - 7:30 PM EDT

Join us for a lovely night with some of Pennsylvania’s finest songwriters. Having collaborated with some of folk and americana’s best from Carsie Blanton to the Wood Brothers, these four will be bringing their songs to the opera house for an incredibly intimate show to kick off the summer season.

Brittany Ann Tranbaugh (pronounced TRAN-baw) is a Pennsylvania songwriter whose work combines Shania-esque hooks with a storytelling prowess reminiscent of John Prine and Lucinda Williams. Since quitting her day job in 2023, she has played over 300 shows including five national tours opening for her mentor and collaborator Carsie Blanton. Accolades include Song of the Year in the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, 1st place in the 2025 Songwriter Serenade Contest, and a 2026 American Songwriter Magazine holiday song contest win. No Depression Magazine named her a “Queer Country Artist to Watch in 2026.” Listeners can expect her debut LP Lucky Broke Girl, crowdfunded with the help of over 400 fans and recorded in Philly with her band and producer Nick Krill, in August 2026.

Chris Kasper is an American songwriter who is currently based in the Philadelphia area. He’s been active in the local and national scene for the last 20 years. Over that time, he has released seven records and toured with acts like Amos Lee and The Wood Brothers. His music traverses the Americana, country blues, indie folk and vintage rock spectrums, blurring the lines between genres. Kasper’s evolution into a no-nonsense songwriter is heard throughout his latest album, with nods to songwriters of the 70s like Bobby Charles, Lowell George, and Neil Young.

Travis Hobbie is a seasoned songwriter whose moniker William H. Travis is for a person and sometimes a group of friends from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, who, when not elsewhere called, by work and errands and family and friends, convene under the umbrella of such a name. Their songs are crafted as to hopefully appeal to cats. The lyrics and music are equal parts undiagnosed depression and unhinged joy. He is a prominent figure in the Lehigh Valley music scene, frequently performing at local venues like the Gap Theatre, Godfrey Daniels, and the Ice House in Bethlehem.

Birdie Busch makes and records music from her homebase of Philadelphia. Critics from American Songwriter to Village Voice have found her of kindred spirit from everyone from Syd Barrett to Eudora Welty, referring to what she does as her own thing and appreciating that strange place where it resides. It’s this comfort to contain multitudes that has had her and her band sharing stages with everyone from Richard Thompson and Janis Ian to Dr.Dog and Sun Ra Arkestra. She recently put out her latest full length, Night Blooming, this Spring.

Canyon Lights & Handsome Jack

Thursday, July 9, 2026 - 7:30 PM EDT

CANYON LIGHTS

WATCH VIDEO

Fronted by Tim Carman and Pat Faherty, formerly of GA-20, Canyon Lights blend throwback rock ’n’ roll, swampy Americana, and heavy blues into a raw, high-energy sound. Friends and bandmates since 2018, Pat and Tim have logged thousands of hours touring and performing on stages across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Their shared love of blues music fueled their explosive performances with GA-20, a three-time #1 Billboard-charting blues band from Boston, MA.

In 2023, the two began reconnecting over their mutual love of 1970s rock bands such as Mountain, Thin Lizzy, and James Gang. Inspired by that era, Pat brought forward a batch of new song ideas, while Tim shared deeply personal lyrics he had been holding onto for years. The songwriting connection was immediate, and it became clear this project was something new — not strictly blues and not confined to any single lane of creativity.  In early 2024, Pat and Tim flew to Denver to put these songs to tape with longtime friend Dylan Brown serving as engineer and co-producer. From those sessions, Canyon Lights was born.

HANDSOME JACK

WATCH VIDEO

On their new roots-rock album, Barnburners!, Handsome Jack keep their sound raw and rugged, delivering a seamless yet unpolished blend of classic rock, swamp rock, and blues that feels instantly familiar while remaining personal and authentic. Fronted by the soulful vocals and remarkable guitar skills of Jamison Passuite, with Joey Verdonselli and Bennie Hayes anchoring a killer rhythm section and handling backing vocals, the Lockport, NY trio taps into the DNA of that old-time rock n’ roll and gets the party started.  Roots-rock hasn’t sounded this good in a long time!

Handsome Jack channels the spirit of classic American music into a sound that’s as timeless as it is electrifying. Drawing from the deep wells of rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, blues, and old-school boogie, the band crafts songs that feel both refreshingly raw and instantly familiar— music that could just as easily be echoing from a backwoods juke joint as thundering through a packed club. Handsome Jack has earned a devoted following not just among fans but also among their musical peers. Legends of the road and studio alike-Chris Robinson as well as the late Neal Casal of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood and The Black Crowes, Zachary Gabbard of the Buffalo Killers and The Black Keys, and Ben McLeod of All Them Witches — have all praised the band’s ability to tap into the roots of rock n’ roll with passion and artistry.

Steepwater Band

Friday, July 31, 2026 - 8:00 PM EDT

WATCH VIDEO

WATCH VIDEO

You should already know these songs. If the old saying about talent equaling success were true, then The Steepwater Band would already be a household name, rubbing shoulders with Aerosmith, Bad Company and other like-minded travelers in our collective Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy. But that’s not how things always work, and this band knows it and still leans into it, smiling, with everything in them, not for brass rings and marquees, but because they must! For them, the music life is a calling and not some stupid costume one puts on to shake loose gold, fame, and groupies. In a land of caricatures, it’s striking to come face-to-face with the real thing.

Something primal lurks in their music, but always wrestling with emotions and stories that are everyday-ready ~ music at once strut-inducing sexy and brass knuckles honest, a sound evolved smartly & patiently through countless gigs, running the bulls whenever and wherever they’ve been welcomed since 1998. AC/DC once said, “If you got the dollar, we got the song / Just wanna boogie woogie all night long,” and The Steepwater Band surely embodies this lip-smacking urge to get some in this mean old world, befitting the group’s Chicago roots and their earthy understanding of crackling city blues.

The abiding, resounding passion inside this band is never in question. Dive into their seemingly endless catalog of songs just about anywhere, and the heart and muscle pumping away inside every track are palpable and present in a most pleasing way. Their sound is like a soundtrack for arm wrestling The Devil and then drinking shots with him ’til sunrise after you’ve pinned him down. Their songs bridge the miles between lovers, throw lines to brothers and sisters in need of some understanding and a spark that makes them shuffle, eyes closed, shaking off the day’s heavy load, ready for another round because the right song by the right band made them feel they had enough fight left in them. That’s the kind of band you’re dealing with here, and they’ll be doing this long after all the pretty boys, package acts, and pretenders have left the stage. – Dennis Cook

THE STEEPWATER BAND IS ~

Jeff Massey ~ lead vocals / guitars

Joe Winters ~ drums / percussion

Eric Saylors ~ guitars / lap steel / backing vocals

Joe Bishop ~ bass / backing vocals

The Cold Stares

Thursday, August 6, 2026 - 7:30 PM EDT

WATCH VIDEO

The Cold Stares are just fine with being one of the few modern blues-rock power trios in the world today. Based out of Evansville, Indiana, The Cold Stares continue to explore what it means to be a “modern” blues-rock trio on their upcoming album Texas—paying tribute to the state where so many of their influences like ZZ Top and the Vaughan brothers called home.

Initially formed in 2012, The Cold Stares began their career as a duo, but expanded their sonic firepower with the addition of bassist Bryce Klueh in 2022. Fuzzed-out guitars, classic rock guitar riffs, and fleet-fingered Cream-style improvisations abound, as do nods to Delta blues and an emphasis on songwriting and lyricism. The group has been praised by Classic Rock Magazine, No Depression, and American Songwriter, among other outlets; they reached #1 on Amazon Music’s Blues Rock album chart; ant they’ve had consecutive albums in Billboard Blues top ten charts.

The Cold Stares have earned prime sync license placements in commercials with Dodge and Chevy among others, had songs on hit television shows like Animal Kingdom and Sex Education,  and have become a staple on many video games including Cyberpunk 2077 and UFL.
